Orange fruit is highly beneficial in heart disease, constipation, intestinal worms, acne, cold, tooth disorders and hair growth. The orange tree grows about 30-50 ft in height. This fruit is well-known to everyone and it is grown all over the country. It has been used from ancient times. The colour, taste and odour of the fruit have been also used for curing of disease. The fruit is of dark yellow colour outside. It has several branches with leaves and flowers which are sweet scented. The botanical name of the fruit is Citrus Aurantium. It belongs to the family Rutaceace. The native of the fruit is considered to be of China. It is one of best cultivated fruits in India and is grown in Tamilnadu, Karnataka, Assam, Maharastra and other states.

The ripe fruit is of sweet taste, cooling, laxative, antiseptic, antibacterial, antispasmodic, cardiac – sedative and good for digestion.

Nutritive value of orange fruit: The nutritive value of fruit in 100 gms which contains moisture 86.0 gm percent, protein 0.6-1.2 gm percent, fat 1.3 gm percent, carbohydrates 12.0-12.5 gm percent. Its minerals and vitamin contents are calcium 26 percent, phosphorous 1 7-22 mg percent, iron 32 gm percent, potassium 150 gm percent, niacin 4 mg, fibre 0.5 grams. It’s calorie value is of 50.

Curative Properties: The orange is considered to be best medicine in our country. Its medicinal properties are known and all parts of the tree including leaves, seeds, fruits and flowers have been used as medicine since old times. The ripe fruit has good medicinal use. The ripe fruit is of sweet taste, cooling, laxative, antiseptic, antibacterial, antispasmodic, cardiac-sedative and good for digestion.

Heart Disease: Orange juice is highly effective in case of heart disease. As it contains high level of super-flavinoids and acts as anti-oxidant and reduces the cholesterol level in the blood. The orange should be consumed two to three times a day. It is best to consume on a an empty stomach in the morning for about a month.

Constipation: The orange juice is highly effective in case of constipation. The orange juice is to be taken regularly as it helps to stimulate the flow of digestive juice and aid in improving digestion and increase appetite. If it is consumed on empty stomach, the toxins accumulated in the intestine get cleaned so that one can overcome constipation. It can also be taken by mixing with honey in an empty stomach to overcome constipation for a month.

Intestinal Worms: Orange is highly effective in case of intestinal complaints. As it contains antiseptic and antibacterial properties, it helps to eliminate waste matter, which in turn prevents growth of bacteria in the stomach. It should be taken in the morning with empty stomach for a week.

Acne: Orange is used in case of acne. The peels of orange are to be removed and are dried in the sun and then ground to fine powder. The powder is to be mixed with water into a paste. The paste is applied over the face and then stand in the sun for 10-15 minutes, this reduces pimples or acne.

Cold: The oil of orange flower is effective in case of cold. The water is boiled in a vessel or in a facial sauna, add 2-3 oil drops in it and inhale the vapour. This is to be taken two or three times in a day, helps in relieving cold.

Tooth Disorders: Orange is beneficial in case of tooth disorders.  Fruit is rich in vitamin C and it is helpful in strengthening bones, teeth and stops bleeding in gums. One has to take orange juice regularly on empty stomach for about 10-15 days. (See also : Toothpaste Myths )

Hair Growth: The orange juice is mixed with 100 gm of coconut oil and then applied to scalp of the head with a gentle massage. This helps in growth of hair and prevents hair loss.
